The Rio Norte Music Department hosts Music in the Parks each year. This is a wonderful program where visiting schools will get to perform and compete at Rio Norte.  This is also the largest fundraiser for our music department!

Music in the Parks Dates:  April 25-26, May 2-3, May 9-10, May 16-17, and May 31.

We will greet buses, check the groups in, escort the ensembles to the warm-up area and the performance area, announce the ensembles to the judges and audience, assist the judges with paperwork, set-up chairs and stands on stage, and provide a bake sale for those hungry musicians.  Descriptions of volunteer opportunities can be found below.

We are using Sign-up Genius to schedule volunteers and organize our bake sale donations.  All students are required to volunteer for 3 shifts as part of their participation grade.  We also need lots of parent volunteers, please feel free to volunteer as much as you like!  We truly appreciate any time you can give!  Donations for the bake sale are broken up by band and choir days, as well as alphabetically by last name.  We appreciate any and all donations.  Please drop donations off at the music room after school on the Friday closest to your donation day.

Concert Formal Information

For students to look their best, please finish having your student's formal altered if necessary.

For the girls:
The gowns should be hemmed to the top of the foot, right at the bottom of the ankle.  If the gown is too long, it can be hazardous while navigating the risers or walking by music stands.  If the gown is too short, it detracts from the overall continuity.  Please no safety pins down the back!  While we try to order the closest fit, the gowns often need some alteration.  Shoes must be black, closed toe with a heel no higher than 1 1/2 inch.  If you cannot find your pearls, please let us know right away!  We will replace them, but there will be a charge for future replacement.

For the guys:
Please remember to wear the bow tie and shirt studs.  If you have the cuff-links please wear them.  If your cuff-links have broken, it's okay, they are an optional accessory.  The shoes must be black dress shoes (no athletic shoes) and black dress socks.  The audience is at eye level with the feet and ankles.  It is amazing how much it detracts from the performance if the audience is focused on a crazy pair of socks or shoes!!
